#8 forms the point of fixation with power and autonomy in its purest form - separating the will of the self from all else and continuously expanding its reach. #8 rejects vulnerability in the essence of their personality.
This Type rejects the gut center’s need for full perception and relationship with all aspects of existence by asserting willpower, and psychological and physical control.
The story of the self is fundamentally believed as a fact and consistently acted upon. All competing stories are seen as offenses or lies to be ignored - or trampled if forced.
This type rejects the Gut’s need for tranquil consistency (9’s attachment) in favor of constant movement toward more pressing immediate impulses and protection of core boundaries. This creates the fundamental disarray of over-assertion and hardened impermeability in the gut intelligence center. 9 withdraws from the world to protect their sense of presence. However, 8 has difficulty disconnecting from the world as the sense of self is tied to how one expands and controls boundaries externally.
Core motivations and behaviors can be a point of confusion for others when dealing with this type, wherein the need for self-independence and autonomy of will dominates qualities that would open the person to receiving understanding and care. People of this type commonly can think people don’t see the reality and depth of their intentions behind their intensity and negativity due to self-justified unbounded assertion of self-will which doesn’t provide clues as to the deeper emotionality.
The Hidden Triads as they relate to #8:
Gut: (8, 9 , 1): The most stable point in the gut center.
Assertive (3, 7, 8):
Rejection (2, 5, 8):
Reactive (4, 6, 8):
Autonomy-Seeking (5, 6, 8):
Key Qualities:
Expanding sense of presence and autonomy
Can be unintentionally physically and psychologically controlling
Reveals hidden conflicts through generating overt conflict
Rejecting the personal need for protection and vulnerability in favor of more psycho-emotional autonomy and toughness.
Valuing strength and freedom in every decision.
Brutish
Deep belief that what is desired for the self can and will be achieved.
Struggle with accepting defeat or losses, and usually retaliating to win again.
Insensitivity to softer emotions in relationships as they believe that the vulnerability is kept for the self.
Can become aggressive in exposing vulnerability in others as a tactic
Even in smaller frames, there is a very distinct and unquestionable “largeness” felt in their presence.
Rejects the Gut need to expand through merging with other qualities/people. Instead carves out boundaries through force.
Refusing weakness.
Identify false integrity in others and the environment.
Type Story:
The will to power is the will to live.
Constant climbing of the mountain. More Presence. More Real. More intense. Outward projection of selfhood to obtain more and more under control and to give others of the fruits of its goals. Reality and its contingencies are but a means to an end. Admission of weakness is something others do to connect but they suck it up and instead redirect attention on increasing capacity and control. Presence externalized. At the top, I will be able to tend to the vulnerable, but until then, time isn’t to be wasted on nuances of emotionality and the give and take of emotion.
They form identity through refusing to be overtaken, replacing the fear of vulnerability by guarding the softest part of the gut — the permeability of being — by becoming impenetrable. This is the only response they can instinctually command, reducing the gut’s breadth of experience and responsiveness to updates.
Wings
8w7: The Unstoppable Force: Distrusts the gut’s efficacy in immediate reaction to conflict and prioritizes controlling direction of force through future planning. More verbally assertive, bratty, causes mental exhaustion and loss of force in others. Creative.
8w9: The Immovable Object: Rests and Trusts in the body’s immediate response to unfavorable situations. Relaxes into the body and moves until it is necessary to act. More non-verbal, more physically grounded and quietly “scary” and assertive
